  •      MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS FOR AFRICA

    • You must be a licensed, certified, and practicing professional in the United States of America,

    or hold equivalent qualifications if you are from another country.

    —Students may contact us to be placed on a waiting list to be matched with a traveling

    professional for the opportunity to shadow or assist.

    —Aides and assistants must have at least two years of supervised field experience.

    • You must be in good standing in your field. This will be verified by a license look-up.

    • We are currently seeking physical therapists, occupational therapists, wheelchair specialists,

    speech therapists, developmental therapists, behavior therapists, psychotherapists/psychologist, social workers/counselors, and art/music/recreational therapists. We may expand to other disciplines in the future.

    • You must be able to work independently.

    • You must have at least near-native competency in the English language.

  •      MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MANOS UNIDAS IN CUSCO, PERU

    Students, recent graduates and professional in the following fields are accepted: Speech Therapy, Psychology, Physical/Occupational Therapy, Art/Music Therapy, Young Adults with Disabilities, Autism Education, Other Related Fields

     

    • Applicants for the Long-Term Volunteer Program (1-6 months) must demonstrate at least a

    beginning level of Spanish skills at the time of travel. This will be verified by interview.

    • Applicants for the Professional Exchange Program (7-14 days) do not need to know

    Spanish as interpreters and document translation services are provided. However, volunteers will be expected to host workshops and provide teacher-trainings and consultations.

    • You must be able to work independently.

    • Non-therapists who want to volunteer at Manos Unidas should email

  •      COMMITMENT

    By registering to volunteer through Therapists Without Borders:

     

    • You commit to further the mission and vision of Therapists Without Borders.

    • You commit to abide by your discipline’s code of ethics, work within your scope of practice,

    and treat using evidence-based/best-practice methods. Remember: “Do No Harm.”

    • You commit to volunteer as a therapist. You may assist in other projects during your stay,

    such as farming or construction, but you are primarily there as a therapist.

    • You commit to present the best of yourself and profession. You are a representative for your

    discipline as well as your country.

    • You commit to provide a written record of your work as a reference for future therapists and

    resource for individuals and caregivers.

    • You commit to respecting the local population and their wisdom.

    please describe your typical caseload within the general application):

    3. Prepare a current resume

    4. Email all the above documents to apply[at]thwb.org with your full name and professional

    discipline in the subject line (e.g., Jane Doe, Occupational Therapist). Applicants for the Manos Unidas program, please also indicate if you are applying for the Professional Exchange Program (7-14 days) or Long Term Volunteer Program (1-6 months).

    • At this time, your application will be reviewed.

    • Your professional license and certification numbers will be verified and references

    may be contacted.

    5. Arrange and complete an interview & consultation by phone or Skype. Applicants for the

    Manos Unidas Long-Term Volunteer program will complete an additional Skype conversation in Spanish to assess language skills with Spanish En Vivo.

    6. Upon acceptance, secure your volunteer placements by accessing the partner program

    sites (Village Volunteers or Manos Unidas) and paying your deposit.

     

    Two or more people traveling together should complete separate applications, but please reference each other in the applications. Groups of 4 or more should contact us for specific information.
